Citrus Fruit Pulp Processing
Process Description
Raw product from the extractors flows to the product balance tank. The product is then transported by the flow meter controlled timing pump through the raw regenerator section where it is pre-heated by sterile product from the sterile regenerator. Pre-heated raw product enters the heater section from the timing pump and is heated to the sterilizing temperature before entering the holding tube. Processed product from the holding tube enters the sterile regenerator section where it is pre-cooled by incoming product from the raw regenerator. Processed product then flows to the cooler section and is cooled to filling temperature. A backpressure device insures proper pressure relationships in the heat exchangers. From the cooler section, processed product flows through a set of divert valves to an aseptic surge tank or back to the balance tank. The processed pulp can be used directly or stored for future use. If used directly, it is blended with processed juice at the filler inlet to yield the desired product.
Water from the water balance tank is used for system sterilization prior to running product. The sterilization water is recycled through the system and returned to the balance tank. The sterilization water cooler section cools the sterilizing water below the flash point prior to being returned to the balance tank.
Process System Features
- Utilizes efficient corrugated tubular heat exchangers for process duty.
- All series flow path eliminates potential sterility and cleaning problems associated with multiple flow path designs.
- Indirect regeneration for up to 45-50% heat recovery.
- Pulp as large as 10mm can be processed without damage or retention.
- Corrugated tubular design eliminates pinch points, minimizing pulp hang-up. Process flowpath can be cleaned in place without backflushing or opening heat exchangers for manual cleaning and inspection.
- Two tank Uni-Surge in-feed system for minimum dilution of high value products and rapid switching to and from product.
- Meter based timing for maximum control of holding time.
- Various control systems configurations (manual to fully integrated automatic) available to meet operating requirements.
- System is CIP cleaned from water balance tank.
