Bright Beer Room

Process Description

Filtered beer flows from the final filters to the Bright Beer Tanks where it is held under a carbon dioxide (CO2) atmosphere. The beer is then pumped to the fillers through a distribution manifold. Product is chased from the pipelines with deaerated water.

As the tanks are filled and emptied, the CO2 blanket is displaced, recovered in the CO2 Pressure Balance Tank and returned to the tanks. This maintains the proper blanket composition and pressure. Should more gas be required than available in the balance tank, additional CO2 is fed to the system. Pressure relief controls prevent overpressure.

When not in service with product, the pipelines are filled with deaerated water. Use of deaerated water for chasing and holding the pipelines prevents air from entering and contacting the product.

Process System Features

  • Maintains beer quality by avoiding contamination with air or oxygen.
  • Reduces consumption of CO2 gas by up to 70%.
  • CO2 atmosphere can be maintained during in-run CIP, eliminating the time needed to reestablish the correct atmosphere.
  • CO2 is replaced rapidly following full CIP.
  • Distribution manifold and tank outlet header design allows maximum flexibility without use of hoses.
  • Any portion of the system can be cleaned while continuing production in other parts of the system.
  • Product is kept at a low temperature by use of jacketed tanks or a cold room.
  • Any combination of tanks and/or lines can be cleaned at the same time, reducing CIP time, energy and chemical usage.
